Neurological Conditions

Dementia symptoms seen to appear worse or be exacerbated by conditions affecting the cervical spine (C1 to C7 vertebrae). So while dementia is presently understood as a progressive brain disease, we do understand that any structural issues in the neck can compound cognitive difficulties, also a reduce brain function.

Here is how a cervical spine issue (C1-C7) may be making dementia worse or more likely.

  • Brain Blood Flow and Drainage: Damage to the cervical spine (C1-C2 instability) could restrict the blood flow and impede drainage of waste products from the brain. This accumulation of toxins and metabolic waste would accelerate the brain cell death associated with dementia.

  • Vagus Nerve Compression: The vagus nerve, which runs near the upper cervical vertebrae (C1-C3), controls vital functions such as our heart rate, our digestion, and cognitive processing. Any compression of this nerve due to neck instability can lead to cognitive issues, including brain fog, memory loss, and mental fatigue..

Key Considerations:

  • Not All Neck Pain is Dementia or would cause it.

We are focusing on neck movement and movement of the Chi through the neck C1 to C7. Certain Tai Chi moves can support different health  conditions. I do hope over time to add other conditions and the best Tai Chi moves to support Wellbeing. Different movements can trigger Medians, support both the blood flow and  our Lymphatic system.
